Boston Ferns thrive inbright, indirect light.Direct sunlight, especially the UAE afternoon sun through glass, can scorch their delicate fronds, while low light can lead to slower growth and loss of their signature blue-green colour.
Best placement:Near an east-facing window or a bright north-facing window.
In a south or west-facing room, place at least 1–2 metres away from the window or use sheer curtains to filter the light.
If the light is too low:New fronds will be smaller, growth will slow, and the plant may lose vibrancy.
Water every5–7 days, keeping the soil evenly moist but never soggy. Boston Ferns dislike drying out completely.
How to check:The top layer of soil should feel slightly moist — water once it becomes dry to the touch.
Why this matters:In nature, these ferns grow in consistently moist environments where humidity is high. Prolonged dryness can cause fronds to crisp, while overwatering without proper drainage can lead to root rot.
Watering tip:When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.
Repot every1–2 years,or when the roots are densely packed and starting to come out of the nursery pot. Whichever comes first.
Why not repot right away?Ferns can be sensitive to sudden changes in the environment. Give them a few months to acclimate before repotting to avoid transplant shock.
Best time to repot:October to May, when the plant is actively growing.
Yes! Blue Ferns benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Blue Fern is actively growing.
During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.
Not recommended — Blue Ferns aresensitiveto minerals and additives such as chloramine in UAE tap water. Over time, this can cause frond tips to brown.
Better options:Filtered water or distilled water, especially if you notice leaf tip browning.
To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.
Yes — over time, Blue Ferns form a lush, spreading clump of fronds, with each frond reaching up to 90 cm in length depending on the amount of light they get and how well they are cared for.
Yes — Blue Ferns are non-toxic to cats and dogs, making them a great pet-friendly choice.
Brown, crispy edges:Usually from low humidity or underwatering.
Yellowing fronds:Overwatering, poor drainage, or water quality issues.
Loss of blue tone:Often from insufficient light or nutrient deficiency.

Yes — Blue Ferns thrive in high humidity.
Why:In their native tropical environment, the air is constantly moist, helping keep fronds soft and vibrant.
Tip:Mist the fronds once a day to boost humidity.
Yes — as long as you maintain adequate humidity and avoid placing it directly under an AC vent. Cold, dry air can quickly dehydrate the fronds.
