Silver Pothos Care Guide & Presentation

How much light does my Silver Pothos need?

Silver Pothos thrives in bright, indirect light. The silver variegation on the leaves develops best when the plant receives plenty of filtered sunlight.

Best placement: Near an east-facing window or a few feet away from a south or west-facing window with sheer curtains.

If the light is too low: The plant will survive but may lose its variegation and produce smaller, slower-growing leaves.

If the light is too strong: Direct UAE sunlight can fade the silver pattern and scorch the green areas of the leaves.

How often should I water my Silver Pothos?

Waterevery 1–2 weeks, allowing the top 4–5 cm of soil to dry out between waterings.

How to check:Insert your finger deep into the soil — if it’s dry at that depth, it’s time to water. Water until it begins to drain from the bottom of the nursery pot.

Why this matters:Silver Pothoses are semi-drought tolerant thanks to its thick leaves, but consistently soggy soil can cause their roots to rot.

Watering tip:When watering your plant, evenly water the entire soil mixture until you see water draining from the bottom of the nursery pot. After allowing all the excess water to drain out, discard that water.

When should I repot my Silver Pothos?

Repot every1–2 yearsor when roots start emerging from the drainage holes. Whichever comes first.

Why not repot right away?Like all plants, Silver Pothoses need time to adapt to their new home after delivery. Repotting too soon can cause extra transplant stress.

Best time to repot:October to May, when the plant is actively growing.

Do I need to fertilize my Silver Pothos?

Yes! Silver Pothos' benefit from regular fertilizing. If you live in the UAE, fertilize once a month from October to May, when your Silver Pothos is actively growing.

During the peak summer months (June–September), growth will slow due to extreme heat, so reduce or pause fertilizing if your plant isn’t actively growing. Over-fertilizing can stress the plant and lead to leaf burn.

Can I use UAE tap water to water my Silver Pothos?

Yes, if there are no other options — Silver Pothos can handle UAE tap water, but it may benefit from filtered water if you notice leaf tip browning.

Better options:Filtered water or distilled water, especially if you notice leaf tip browning.

To distill water, boil in a kettle at 100 degrees celsius and allow the water to cool down to room temperature overnight.

Will my Silver Pothos get bigger over time?

Yes — given the right light and care, Silver Pothos vines can grow over1.5–2 metersindoors. The leaves will become larger and more variegated with higher light levels.

Is my Silver Pothos safe for pets?

No — it can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and vomiting if ingested by cats or dogs. Keep it out of reach of pets.

Why are the leaves of my Silver Pothos changing colour?

Yellowing leaves:Overwatering or poor drainage.

Brown edges:Low humidity, inconsistent watering, or mineral build-up.

Curling leaves:Underwatering, excessive light, or sudden temperature changes.

Does my Silver Pothos need humidity?

Yes — Silver Pothoses appreciatemoderate humidity.Higher humidity helps prevent leaf edges from browning and keeps the foliage lush, as Scindapsuses are native to tropical climates.

Tip:Mist the leaves once a day to boost humidity and wipe leaves regularly to remove dust, which can block light absorption.

Can I keep my Silver Pothos in an air conditioned room?

Yes — as long as it’s kept away from cold air blowing directly onto it, which can cause leaf edges to brown.
